Job Title: Director of Supply Chain Investment
Location: Aberdeen/Edinburgh

About the Role
Great British Energy is looking for a Director of Supply Chain Investment to join our GBE Directorate Team. This role will play a key part in contributing to projects, objectives, and wider organisational goals.
Key Responsibilities
Lead commercial supply chain investment activity, including direct equity, debt, convertible instruments, co‑investment and other market‑facing products
Originate and develop a high‑quality pipeline of investable opportunities across energy manufacturing, components, enabling infrastructure, technology, logistics and industrial capabilities
Own transaction execution, including screening, commercial assessment, financial modelling, valuation, due diligence, structuring, negotiation, approvals, documentation, completion and post‑investment monitoring
Assess opportunities against strategic fit, commercial viability, risk‑adjusted return, additionality, deliverability, value for money, subsidy control and industrial impact
Oversee preparation of investment committee papers, board materials and senior decision‑making documents with clear, evidence‑based recommendations
Lead financial, commercial and investment due diligence, working with internal teams, external advisers, government stakeholders and co‑investors as required
Structure investments to protect taxpayer value, manage downside risk, crowd in private capital and support long‑term industrial outcomes
Build relationships with target companies, developers, OEMs, manufacturers, investors, lenders, advisers, public finance institutions and regional partners
Work with the Director of EEUK Programme and Public Investment to align commercial investments with the wider EEUK portfolio and blended intervention design where relevant
Work with the Director of Supply Chain Strategy and Partnerships to ensure transaction origination reflects strategic priorities, market intelligence and future capability needs
Work closely with GBE corporate functions, including Finance, Legal, Risk, Governance, Commercial, Procurement, People, Communications and Strategy, to ensure investment activity is compliant, assured, controlled and aligned with GBE policies, delegations and risk appetite
Partner with Finance, Legal, Risk, Governance and Commercial on investment models, valuations, accounting treatment, transaction structures, shareholder rights, covenants, conflicts management, adviser appointments and decision records
Lead post‑investment monitoring and portfolio management, including performance tracking, covenant monitoring, risk management, value protection and exit planning where relevant
Support the development of GBE's investment policies, portfolio reporting and performance management frameworks
Build and lead a high‑performing investment team with a culture of commercial rigour, delivery, integrity and continuous improvement
Qualifications and Experience
Relevant degree, professional qualification or equivalent experience in finance, economics, business, or investment.
Significant senior experience in investment, corporate finance, private equity, infrastructure finance, project finance, growth capital, venture capital, industrial investment or M&A.
Track record originating, structuring and executing investments or transactions in complex commercial environments.
Strong financial modelling, valuation, due diligence and investment appraisal capability.
Experience preparing and presenting investment papers, board materials, credit papers or transaction recommendations for senior governance.
Strong commercial judgement across business models, management teams, markets, technology risks, customer demand, competitive position and delivery risk.
Experience negotiating transaction terms and working with legal, financial, technical and commercial advisers.
Understanding of investment instruments such as equity, debt, shareholder loans, convertibles, preference shares, guarantees and co‑investment structures.
Ability to balance commercial return, risk management and strategic public value objectives.
Strong understanding of clean energy, infrastructure, manufacturing or industrial sectors, or the ability to acquire this quickly.
Excellent stakeholder, communication and people leadership skills, with credibility across boards, investors, lenders, advisers, senior officials and governance bodies.
Desirable
Experience investing in clean energy supply chains, offshore wind, electricity networks, hydrogen, storage, power electronics, advanced manufacturing, ports or industrial infrastructure.
Experience working with public investment institutions, sovereign funds, development banks, government departments and public‑private investment structures.
Experience with minority equity investments, strategic stakes, industrial scale‑up finance or growth capital investments.
Understanding of UK public finance, subsidy control, value‑for‑money requirements and public sector investment governance.
