Assistant Civil Engineer

As an Assistant Civil Engineer, you will support the delivery of civil engineering designs across a range of development projects. You will work closely with senior engineers and a multidisciplinary team to produce drainage, highway, and infrastructure designs from concept through to construction. This role is ideal for a graduate or early-career engineer looking to develop within a collaborative consultancy environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist in the preparation of civil engineering designs, including:
o Drainage strategies and Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS)
o Highway and access design (Section 278 works)
o Earthworks and cut & fill analysis
* Support feasibility studies and early-stage engineering appraisals
* Produce drawings, calculations, and technical reports for planning and approvals
* Assist in developing designs through to technical approval and construction stage
* Liaise with external stakeholders, including local authorities, utilities, and regulators
* Support flood risk assessments and surface water management strategies
* Coordinate with internal teams (architectural, structural, sustainability)
* Ensure compliance with relevant UK standards and regulations
* Support project delivery within agreed deadlines and budgets
Requirements
* Essential:
o Degree in Civil Engineering (or related discipline)
o Basic understanding of drainage and highway design
o Familiarity with AutoCAD, Site3D/Civil 3D, Causeway Flow or similar software
o Strong communication and teamwork skills
* Desirable:
o Experience in a consultancy or design environment
o Knowledge of SuDS, flood risk, or earthworks modelling
o Working towards professional accreditation (e.g. ICE)
