Main duties of the job
If you are an overseas trained Nurse in the UK, you will need to have your NMC registration.
You will be responsible for assessing, planning, delivering and evaluating nursing care with opportunities to increase your skills, knowledge and experience. You must possess excellent interpersonal and organisational skills. We aim for our new team members to develop and take an active role in helping to make improvements on the unit and most importantly, to the care given to our patients.
Supported by the Practice Development team, you will receive a thorough induction and a tailored orientation programme, as well as a period of supernumerary practice. All newly qualified nurses will be offered our accredited preceptorship programme. Continuing professional development and post-registration education is actively encouraged through the provision of in-house study days and courses at the local universities to help build your nursing career.

6. Act as a Named Nurse within a Team taking responsibility, over an appropriate span of time, in conjunction with the Ward Manager and the multidisciplinary team, for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care from admission to discharge within the community.
7. Be aware of current advances in clinical care and be able to facilitate the team members in implementation of evidence-based practice.
8. Take an active role in the continuing development and use of protocols and standards for nursing care.
9. Participate in evaluation, audit, and research of nursing care, and incorporate appropriate findings into practice.
10. Actively work to promote health and prevent ill health in staff, patients and their relatives.
11. Promote and maintain a safe and pleasant environment for patients, visitors, and colleagues.
12. Check the readiness for use of emergency/special equipment and ensure all equipment in use, is in good working order.
13. Have knowledge of recording relevant patient/nursing data on to computer.
14. Ensure his/her own and junior staffs compliance with the NMC Guidelines for Records and Record Keeping (1998) in all settings.
15. Accept responsibility for the administration, care, and custody of medicines, in accordance with legal requirements and NMC and Trust Guidelines on drug administration.
16. Attend mandatory annual updates in fire training, basic life support and maintain knowledge of relevant policies.
17. Have knowledge and understanding of all relevant Trust policies, including the Major Incident Plan, ensuring that junior colleagues are aware of such policies.
18. Have knowledge of and adhere to relevant parts of national legislation, including Health and Safety at Work Act, COSHH Regulations, and Moving and Handling Regulations.
19. Transport people and/or items safely and to time consistent with legislation, policies and procedures.
20. Ensure all biomedical investigations and interventions are undertaken safely and in a timely manner, reporting and documenting results appropriately and in line with legislation, policies and procedures.
