Teacher of Science – Secondary School (Havering / Upminster)
Location: Upminster, Havering, East London
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: £37,870 – £56,154 per annum (Outer London MPS/UPS, dependent on experience)
Start Date: September 2026
Nature of the Job
We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic Teacher of Science to join a supportive and well-resourced secondary school in Upminster, Havering. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and delivering high-quality Science lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, covering Biology, Chemistry, and Physics in line with the national curriculum.
Key responsibilities include:
• Planning and delivering engaging Science lessons across KS3 and KS4
• Assessing, tracking, and supporting student progress in line with school policies
• Maintaining high expectations of behaviour and achievement in the classroom
• Contributing to departmental planning, resources, and curriculum development
• Supporting practical Science activities and maintaining lab safety standards
• Working collaboratively with colleagues to raise attainment and engagement
Location
The role is based at a secondary school located in Upminster, Havering (East London). The successful candidate will be required to work on-site during term time in line with the school calendar.
Terms of Employment
This is a full-time, permanent teaching position, employed directly by the school. Standard school hours apply, including attendance at staff meetings, parents’ evenings, and training days as required.
Remuneration
The salary will be paid in line with the Outer London Teachers’ Pay Scale (MPS/UPS):
• £37,870 – £50,474 per annum
Salary placement will depend on qualifications and experience.
Experience and Training Requirements
Essential:
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
• Experience teaching Science at KS3 and KS4
• Strong subject knowledge across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics
• Ability to deliver engaging and inclusive lessons for mixed-ability groups
Desirable:
• Experience working in a secondary school setting in the UK
• Behaviour management experience in a classroom environment
• Participation in departmental or curriculum development
• ECTs are welcome to apply; full induction and support will be provided
