So…. What is this role exactly?
This is an exciting opportunity for a customer focused and experienced Income Legal Officer, to join our customer services team.
We are looking for an individual who is resilient, well organised and be able to handle both challenging and sensitive conversations with customers, as well as representing the group at court hearings and evictions.
What will my working week look like?
You will live within 25 miles of Warrington to be able to cover your patch. You will also need to be based within a reasonable travelling distance of our Head Office in Birchwood, Warrington to attend meetings and training courses when needed.
Your day-to-day work will involve attending court hearings and evictions on behalf of the group, whilst managing a caseload of customers;
• reviewing rent accounts
• contacting customers by telephone and through our digital platforms
• discussing repayment options and making affordable, sustainable arrangements
• offering basic benefit advice
• preparing court bundles
• attending court and evictions
• conducting pre court and pre eviction visits.
Where a customer’s circumstances are complex, you will work closely with our specialist money advice, tenancy support and housing management teams, to ensure we get the best outcomes we can for our customers and for YHG.
What will I be responsible for doing?
As an Income Legal Officer, you will be designated a patch of properties for which you are responsible for collecting the rent and/or charges. You will make calls and take action to recover outstanding rent, mitigating loss of income by being proactive in terms of supporting customers with making sustainable payment arrangements and benefit claims.
You will also be responsible for attending court hearings and evictions on behalf of the team, you will need to organise court bundles and ensure you are well informed on any cases you are attending. You will need to conduct pre court and pre-eviction visits only where we are struggling to engage with our customers.

To be a successful as Income Legal Officer, here at YHG, you will have….
1. In depth knowledge of the arrears recovery process (from beginning to end) across a range of tenures, with experience of working in a demanding customer service environment
2. Experience in preparing & submitting court paperwork and bundles.
3. Experience of attending County Court to present rent possession claims
4. Experience in dealing with difficult customers, some of whom may be demanding/vulnerable, within an income collection environment
5. Good understanding of the benefits system, including Housing Benefit, Universal Credit etc.

7. A strong communicator with a high level of attention to detail
8. Good administrative, organisational, and planning skills with an ability to acquire knowledge and grasp new concepts quickly
9. Focused/target driven and thrive in a highly performance driven, phone-based income collection environment.
