The role
As a Catering Assistant in our café, you will support daily operations and deliver exceptional guest experiences. You’ll be supported by the Café Manager, Supervisors, and an experienced catering team. You’ll handle tasks including preparing display counters, aiding in simple food preparation, and maintaining food safety and cleanliness. You will adapt to different tasks to ensure smooth service and a positive customer experience, with a strong focus on hygiene and standards.
About you
You excel in customer interactions, bringing friendliness and positivity to a fast-paced environment. You are passionate and take pride in your work, enjoy varied tasks, and thrive as a team player, collaborating with others and celebrating shared successes. A basic knowledge of food safety and hygiene is essential, and previous customer service experience in catering or retail is highly desirable. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are crucial for effective interaction with customers and team members. The ability to work well in a team and under pressure, along with numerical literacy for attention to detail, are important. Most of all, you have natural people skills and the ability to deliver memorable service.
Key responsibilities
* Provide excellent customer service, including taking orders, serving, and addressing enquiries
* Maintain a welcoming atmosphere and ensure café cleanliness
* Assist with simple food preparation, serving, and presentation
* Handle transactions accurately, manage the cash register, and balance cash drawers
* Monitor and restock inventory, rotate stock to minimize waste
* Adhere to hygiene standards, food safety regulations, and safety systems
* Collaborate with staff, support new team members, and communicate issues to the Supervisor
* Contribute to a positive work environment and uphold Sterling's brand integrity
* Share best practices and undertake additional duties as needed, promoting accountability and improvement
