Specialist Antimicrobial Pharmacist

Would you like to work in a specialist role as part of an experienced and forward-thinking Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) team at a large tertiary care teaching hospital with over 1,000 beds?
The South Tees Antimicrobial Pharmacy Team are looking to recruit a specialist antimicrobial pharmacist with hospital‑based experience, who is motivated, dynamic and keen to learn and develop in this key role within the organisation.
This post will provide a varied experience in antimicrobial stewardship, infection management, education and review of antimicrobial prescribing practice, as well as valuable opportunities for research and professional development.
Experience in antimicrobial stewardship is not essential. Support from the AMS pharmacy team and shadowing/experience opportunities will be provided through close working relationships with infectious disease consultants, consultant microbiologists and the infection control team. There will also be opportunities for professional development and networking at regional and national conferences to facilitate learning and expertise in this specialist area.
Main duties of the job
* Work closely with the full antimicrobial stewardship MDT (AMS Pharmacy Team, ID Consultants, Microbiology, Infection Prevention and Control Team) to provide expert pharmacological advice on all aspects of antimicrobial prescribing, supply, infection management and education.
* Provide expert input into root cause analysis of hospital‑acquired infection.
* Evaluate antimicrobial prescribing through research and audit, identify shortfalls in good practice and aid the lead AMS pharmacist in providing assurance to relevant Trust groups and committees.
* Become a key stakeholder in the development, review and maintenance of all antimicrobial‑related policies, guidelines and pathways.
* Explore new and innovative ways of improving antimicrobial stewardship through the use of electronic prescribing and digital solutions.
* Explore opportunities for antimicrobial research and education/training.
* Support clinicians in review of antimicrobial prescribing through reflective learning and peer review.
* Be an active member of the regional Antimicrobial group and share good practice.
* Be a key point of contact for specialist advice and education as a Specialties Clinical Pharmacist within the Clinical Pharmacy team.
* Be an essential point of contact and provide specialist advice/service delivery in antimicrobial management to prescribers, patients and other healthcare staff, ensuring services are delivered to agreed standards.

Qualifications
* Master's Degree in Pharmacy
* Registered Pharmacist with GPhC
* Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy (or working towards)
* Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy
* Working towards Independent prescriber qualification
Experience
* Previous experience as a hospital pharmacist
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) experience or a good understanding of AMS practice.
* Participation in research and audit
* Training of staff
