Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Disability Support Worker to assist a young child (3years old) with disabilities in their daily activities and promote their independence. The ideal candidate will provide support tailored to the unique needs of each individual, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment. This role is essential in helping the client achieve their personal goals and enhancing their quality of life. The ideal candidate will work flexibly over the week to support the client on days out, attending age appropriate settings/activities and nursery. The client has cerebral palsy, epilepsy, experiences seizures, and they are non-verbal and PEG fed, therefore commitment to the this package is essential as changes to routine can disrupt routine. Previous experience and knowledge of conditions and PEG intervention is of high importance. This role offers 12 hours a week to support the child and offer respite to his parents.
Responsibilities
* Assist client with personal care tasks, including bathing, dressing, and grooming.
* Support individuals in developing and following care plans tailored to their specific needs.
* Facilitate social and recreational activities to encourage engagement and interaction.
* Drive client to appointments, social events, or community activities as required.
* Communicate effectively with client, Amber Complex Care, families, and healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care.
* Maintain accurate records of client progress and report any changes in behaviour or condition.
* Assist with household tasks such as meal preparation, cleaning, and laundry when necessary.
Skills
* Experience with children that have complex health needs such as epilepsy, Cerebral palsy, non-verbal in communication and PEGs.
* Strong communication skills to interact effectively with client and team members.
* Experience working with children is advantageous for those supporting families.
* Ability to drive is essential for transporting client as needed.
* Proficiency in IT skills for maintaining records and communicating effectively within the team.
* A compassionate approach towards supporting individuals with disabilities, demonstrating patience and understanding.
