PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £49,000-£54,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
BBC iPlayer is one of the UK’s most loved brands, and we’re looking for a talented Senior Tester who is passionate about testing, motivating others, and delivering innovative technology. You’ll be embedded in a TV & Devices engineering team, helping deliver world-class TV platform experiences to millions daily. A seamless, engaging product experience is key to audience satisfaction and the BBC’s value.
You’ll lead testing for complex, high-impact projects, ensuring software quality across the development lifecycle. You’ll be hands-on in all stages of SDLC—architecture, design, development, testing, and delivery—while advocating for the audience and collaborating with discipline leads.
We’re looking for someone enthusiastic, detail-oriented, and collaborative, with a drive to learn, grow, and elevate the test discipline. You’ll also help foster a strong team culture through mentoring, coaching, and knowledge sharing.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
* Lead the definition and execution of test approaches that meet complex product needs, while actively contributing to improvements in your team’s software development methodologies.
* Mentor and coach other testers to build knowledge, skills, and expertise across the department, and support test process improvements through experimentation.
* Collaborate with test leadership to deliver and execute test strategy, helping to evolve and elevate the test discipline.
* Engage with wider test community forums to share knowledge and stay current with industry practices.
* Shape and implement test automation frameworks and delivery pipelines, ensuring appropriate levels of both automated and manual test coverage.
* Take ownership of defect management for small to medium projects, including triaging, debugging, and root cause analysis, while managing test environments and data requirements.
* Work with AWS systems and monitoring tools such as CloudWatch and Piano Analytics, perform ad-hoc exploratory testing, and continuously learn and apply new technologies to projects.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
• Self motivated, proactive and inquisitive attitude to work
• Outstanding communication skills
• Experience in testing Web/Mobile &/Or TV platforms/devices
• Excellent domain testing skills with a proven strong background with experience in working with various broadcast systems such as DTT, DSat, DCable.
• Experience working in multi-discipline teams, ideally using Agile methodologies (sprints, scrum)
• Strong leadership of tasks, small projects spanning across multiple teams
• Experience of testing applications on devices including TV, STB, Game Console, tablet and mobile using responsive designs and techniques.
