Overview
The Cancer Intelligence department transforms high‑quality data and research into powerful intelligence that informs decision‑making and drives the charity’s mission forward. As a Senior Data Governance & Access Officer you will enable the acquisition, secure management, and analysis of complex research datasets to support evidence‑based policymaking and influencing.
Responsibilities
* Managing the Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT) accreditation and all associated policies, processes, risk assessment, and staff training.
* Accountable for day‑to‑day management of health research data and maintaining information governance standards.
* Developing and implementing processes captured within documentation across the Cancer Intelligence Team.
* Providing technical support for applications to acquire external health data, ensuring these meet supplier requirements.
* Leading the logistical aspects of acquiring data, including tracking requests and resolving potential delays.
* Providing technical advice and support to Analysts on data handling and management processes.
* Identifying system bottlenecks and assisting improvements in access to patient data.
* Delivering and evaluating data quality across a range of data sources.
* Driving continuous improvements, leading or assisting with new data policies and procedures, and undertaking horizon scanning of new data sources.
* Providing regular management information about data acquisition processes to senior leaders.
* Ensuring data transfer, storage, and access comply with Cancer Intelligence Information Security Management System policies.
Qualifications
* Experienced Data Access & Governance professional with expertise sourcing or reviewing external datasets within academic, health, or scientific research.
* Successful track record of managing and maintaining data security accreditations such as DSPT.
* Expert knowledge of data protection and information governance principles, including training others and risk mitigation.
* Strong understanding of research projects and the data lifecycle from acquisition to dissemination.
* Excellent interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder management skills; ability to build relationships with data suppliers, Analysts, Researchers, Academics, and health professionals.
* Proactive, solutions‑driven approach to problem‑solving and continuous improvement.
* Knowledge of metadata standards and some familiarity with statistical software (Stata, R, SPSS, Python).
* Available to start on one month’s notice or less.
