Job Summary
We are seeking highly motivated and dynamic individuals to take up a full‑time consultant post at Whipps Cross University Hospital and Newham University Hospital. The successful candidate will support the ophthalmology service, contribute to service development, audit, research, and play a key role in clinical leadership.
Main duties
* Deliver high-quality glaucoma and general ophthalmic care.
* Perform cataract surgery and manage ocular trauma and acute emergencies.
* Lead glaucoma filtration and shunt surgeries.
* Support training of junior doctors and allied health professionals.
* Participate in audit, clinical governance, and service development projects.
* Maintain clear clinical records and use electronic patient record systems.
Qualifications
* FRCOphth or equivalent.
* Glaucoma fellowship or ASTO.
Desirable
* Experience as a Consultant with sub‑specialty interest in Glaucoma.
* Higher degree or academic prizes.
* Hands‑on experience with service development and principal investigator in clinical trials.
* Training the Trainer course, ARCP assessor.
* Recent 360‑degree multi‑source feedback.
Experience
* Competent in managing glaucoma and primary eye conditions.
* Competent in cataract surgery.
* Competent with management of ocular trauma (surgical) and acute emergencies.
* Competent in glaucoma filtration and shunt surgery.
* Management experience and hands‑on service development.

Contract details
* Salary: £109,725 to £145,478 per annum.
* Permanent, full‑time, 1 on‑call per 10 days.
