Band 5/6 Orthoptist CDC – Grimsby

Independently assess, diagnose, and manage patients with a wide range of ocular motility disorders, amblyopia, strabismus, and visual function problems across paediatric, adult, and special needs groups.
Contribute to extended roles such as stroke, neuro‑ophthalmology, or low‑vision clinics, and provide orthoptic input into multidisciplinary clinics (e.g., paediatric ophthalmology, maxillofacial, neurology).
Work cross‑site between Grimsby, Scunthorpe, and occasionally Goole. Perform secondary screening and run single‑handed orthoptic clinics.
Job Responsibilities
* Investigate, diagnose, and manage orthoptic patients with independence and accountability.
* Prioritise own clinical workload and maintain accurate, contemporaneous records.
* Work unsupervised individually and as part of a team, using initiative.
* Liaise with other health‑care professionals and supervise or teach orthoptic undergraduates and other health professionals.
* Plan and carry out CPD in line with BIOS and HCPC requirements.
* Apply professional guidelines, maintain HCPC registration, and comply with departmental policies.
* Contribute to development of departmental policies and promote the profession.
* Ensure a safe environment complying with Health and Safety at Work Act, Fire Prevention Management, Safeguarding Children, Infection Control, and Risk Management procedures.
* Work within professional guidelines and support the development of orthoptic services.
Person Specification & Qualifications
* BSc (Hons) Orthoptics or equivalent.
* HCPC registration as an Orthoptist.
* Post‑graduate qualification or extended‑role training.
* Knowledge of a wide range of orthoptic conditions and evidence‑based practice.
* At least one year post‑qualification clinical experience.
