Shorterm Group is proud to be supporting a leading player in the defence and aerospace sector in their search for an experienced Design Manager to join their Engineering Department. This is an exciting opportunity for a driven individual to lead a talented team in the design and analysis of advanced rocket motors and propulsion systems.
The Opportunity:
As Design Manager, you will oversee a multidisciplinary team of analysts and documentation configuration engineers, ensuring the delivery of technical excellence and project success. You'll be managing both strategic and day-to-day functions, working on cutting-edge propulsion systems and supporting the development of next-generation aerospace technologies.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Leading and managing a team to deliver design, analysis, and documentation services in line with business goals.
- Planning and prioritising tasks to meet immediate and mid-term engineering requirements.
- Driving improvements in ballistic and stress analysis capabilities.
- Ensuring high-quality technical documentation and enhancing on-time delivery performance.
- Supporting bids and early concept phases for new propulsion technologies.
- Managing people strategies including recruitment, development, training, and succession planning.
- Engaging with internal stakeholders and external customers on technical matters.
- Leading contributions to knowledge management and design standards within the department.
About You:
- We're looking for candidates with a strong engineering foundation and a proven track record in technical leadership. Ideally, you'll bring:
- A formal qualification (HNC, HND or Degree) in Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a relevant Engineering discipline.
- Experience in managing engineering teams or supervising technical projects.
- Familiarity with aerospace/defence design practices, including environmental and structural testing.
- Knowledge of engineering drawing standards, configuration management, and modelling techniques.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to motivate and develop others.
- A proactive mindset with a drive for continuous improvement and delivery excellence.
