Department Overview:
The MFL department offers a dynamic, innovative, and supportive environment with engaging lessons that enable students to reach their potential. The department currently has five full-time and one part-time staff members, some of whom also teach other subjects or hold leadership roles.
Students study Spanish and French from Years 7-9. From Year 10, 75% of each cohort studies a language to GCSE, with many continuing to A Level. The school's talent in language learning is evident.
Job Description:
Heads of Department are key leaders with significant responsibilities, supporting the school's vision and ethos. Responsibilities include teaching and learning, strategic planning, monitoring, resource management, and creating a positive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Developing an inspiring curriculum that promotes effective, lifelong learning.
2. Ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
3. Creating a vision and strategic plan for the department.
4. Developing Schemes of Learning for all students.
5. Preparing a three-year strategic plan supported by an annual action plan.
6. Conducting annual self-reviews of the department and adjusting strategies accordingly.
7. Participating in course selection and implementation discussions.
8. Collaborating with primary schools for smooth student transition.
9. Monitoring and evaluating teaching quality and student progress.
10. Motivating and supporting staff to excel.
11. Communicating a clear department vision to foster ownership and team spirit.
12. Line managing and developing staff.
13. Maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment.
14. Supporting student well-being and behaviour standards.
15. Maintaining effective communication with parents regarding student progress and behaviour.
