As a Senior Environmental Services Technician, within our Waste and recycling Service, you can contribute to the safe and efficient collection of waste and recycling across Sunderland.
The job will involve driving and operating a range of specialised refuse vehicles up to 26 tonnes ensuring the statutory collection of household and commercial waste across the city is maintained. You will supervise and direct the crew alongside being responsible for their safety and that of the general public. You will be required to demonstrate good customer service skills and ensure work is completed adhering to the Councils set standards with quality and accuracy. You will be required to utilise digital equipment such as handheld devices to record tasks and for communication purposes.
Responsibilities
* Drive and operate a range of specialised refuse vehicles up to 26 tonnes Gross Vehicle Weight, ensuring statutory collection of household and commercial waste across the city.
* Supervise and direct the crew, taking responsibility for their safety and that of the general public.
* Demonstrate good customer service skills and ensure work is completed to the Council’s standards with quality and accuracy.
* Utilise digital equipment such as handheld devices to record tasks and for communication purposes.
Qualifications
* Full UK driving licence with category C entitlement to drive and operate a range of vehicles up to 26 tonnes Gross Vehicle Weight, alongside a valid CPC card and digital tachograph card.
* Good communication skills and the ability to follow instructions, policies, procedures and legislation to carry out duties compliantly.
* You may be required to work from any of the 4 Council depots in Hendon, South Hylton, Houghton Le Spring or Washington.
Contract and working patterns
This is a Permanent Variable Hours contract, and applicants should be prepared to work any day of the week (Monday – Sunday) and have the flexibility to respond if called upon at short notice. You may also be required to work Bank/Public holidays, as well as between Christmas and New Year when required by the service and appropriate to the post.
