Job Title: Assembly Operative
Location: Newhaven, East Sussex
Salary: £25,396 per annum + Annual Bonus
Role Overview
This position suits an Assembly Operative with hands-on experience in metalwork and woodwork, supporting the build and assembly of engineered products within a structured manufacturing environment. The role is workshop-based in Newhaven and forms part of a small, skilled production team focused on quality, consistency, and throughput.
Key Responsibilities
Assemble components using metalwork and woodwork techniques in line with drawings and build instructions
Carry out drilling, cutting, fastening, bonding, and finishing operations on metal and wooden parts
Use hand tools and basic power tools safely and accurately
Read and follow engineering drawings, job sheets, and assembly instructions
Perform visual and dimensional quality checks during and after assembly
Maintain a clean and organised workstation in line with health and safety standards
Support continuous improvement by identifying assembly or quality issues Required Skills & Experience
Practical experience in assembly, fabrication, or manufacturing
Proven ability working with metal and wood (commercial or workshop-based)
Confident using hand tools and basic workshop equipment
Ability to follow instructions accurately and work to tolerances
Reliable, detail-focused, and comfortable working as part of a team Desirable (Not Essential)
Experience in a light engineering or manufacturing environment
Basic understanding of quality control processes
