MYDoc Registrar (ST3-5 equivalent) in Clinical Neurophysiology

Mid Yorkshire Teaching Trust is pleasedto announce the development and introduction of this new role. The post will bea combination of service delivery and educational input within the specialty.

These posts are not recognised UKtraining posts. However, thepost-holders will have a named supervisor and be supported in undertakingscheduled educational opportunities within the Trust and specialties.

Thedepartment of Clinical Neurophysiology is based at Pinderfields Hospital andserves the populations of Wakefield, Dewsbury, Pontefract, Barnsley and SouthLeeds as well as receiving referrals from further afield.

Thedepartment has 5 clinical recording rooms, as well as office and other space.It is staffed by 2 Consultant Clinical Neurophysiologists, 1 Clinical ServiceManager and 4 experienced Neurophysiology Technicians who undertake a widerange of investigations.

The department has a range ofneurophysiology machines including Dantec Keypoint, Viking Select and XLTEK. Itis looking to develop an innovative approach to video telemetry and thesuccessful candidate would be encouraged to help with this development.

Thedepartment is busy and offers a wide range of services delivered by the wholeteam including over 4000 NCS/EMGs and 1000 EEGs per year.


Main duties of the job

Supportthe Consultant and Clinical Physiologists in the department, seeing outpatientsand inpatients.

Toperform and/or report on Nerve Conduction studies/EMG, EEGs and Evokedpotentials studies following a period of training.

Job responsibilities

These posts are designed to help youget the experience needed for the national training programme application. Thereare opportunities to develop your specialist knowledge and skills, lead aquality improvement project and partake in departmental teaching. Many of ourprevious doctors have successfully got onto a national training programme withthe help we have provided.

Doctors appointed to a MYDoc post will receiverelevant educational input. Each doctor will beallocated an Educational Supervisor and will be required to develop aPersonalised Work Schedule.

The duties will be based primarily on our PinderfieldsHospital site although all our medical staff are involved in delivering care topatients on all our sites.

Your duties will include appropriate clinicalresponsibility to the Consultant Clinical Neurophysiologist to whom you areresponsible. The duties delegated to you shall be consistent with your seniority and specialisation as a practitioner in thisgrade.

The role is full-time, with a standard workweek of 40 hours.

This post does not participate in on-calls/out-of-hours working.

Terms & Conditions and Tenure

Employment will be as a MYDoc Registrar on Trust Termsand Conditions of Service.

Appointment as a MYDoc Registrar is intended to be for a maximum three-yearperiod as part of an individual development programme for the Doctor. The initial tenure of post will be no lessthan 1 year with a strong potential to extend to a maximum of three years. The offer will be dependent on servicerequirements and confirmed at conditional offer stage.

Pay Scale

These roles are equivalent to a doctor on specialtytraining programmes and will be paid on the equivalent pay scale. The salary scale commences at £61,825 per annum.

Appraisal and Revalidation

This post is not recognised for training and brings with it an obligationto engage with the process of revalidation on an annual basis.

All our Trust appointed doctors are required to engage positively withappraisal and revalidation. The Trusthas procedures that comply with national recommendations. As a Trust employed doctor on a fixed termcontract successfully appointed applicants will need to have a prescribedconnection with Mid Yorkshire Teaching Trust via GMC Connect and will thereforehave Dr Richard Robinson, the Medical Director at the Trust as their GMCResponsible Officer.

Continuing Professional Development

The Trust requires all its doctors toengage with continuing professional development, guided by the relevantprofessional associations or Royal Colleges. Time and funding are providedaccording to departmental and Trust policies, subject to approval through theclinical management structures. There is a programme of mandatory trainingwhich all relevant staff must complete as required.

Research

Medical staff are encouraged to develop areas of personal and/or researchinterest. This can be developed inliaison with the Trusts R&D department and in line with prevailingpolicies and research frameworks. TheTrust is developing an expanding and outward-looking research programme.

Educational & Clinical Supervision

The post holder will have a named educationalsupervisor and be expected to hold regular meetings with them during theirtenure to ensure appropriate development during their appointment.

Teaching

The Trust is keen to maintain itsreputation for high quality training and to attract the highest calibre oftrainee and career-grade doctors. Allsenior doctors are involved in training our doctors, students and otherprofessions. There are manyopportunities to develop training and education roles, and many have taken oneducational leadership roles within and beyond the Trust.

Audit and Clinical Governance

There is a rolling half-day clinicalgovernance programme and audit meetings are well attended and lively. The Clinical Audit Department assists withsetting and supporting an audit programme for the Service with which allcolleagues are encouraged to engage. Clinical Audit is considered withinobjectives as part of job planning.


Person Specification


Experience

* Pre-registration / foundation training and two years of core medical training or with equivalent
* Minimum of 4 years experience with general medicine
* Experience of teaching clinical skills
* Clinical research and development


GMC Registration

* Full GMC Registration with licence to practise.
* Please state your full GMC number.
* Demonstrates intelligent and analytical approach to problem solving.
* Good time management.
* Possess good organisational skills.


Personal Attributes

* Flexibility.
* Willingness to provide and learn all aspects of hospitals internal systems and processes and adhere to local policies
* Physically able to carry out the duties as specified in the job description and ability to evidence competencies
* Disclosure + Barring Service (DBS) Clearance
* Has personal insight into own strengths and weaknesses.
* Ability to contribute to the development of the Trust, the Unit and its services.
* Evidence of multidisciplinary team working
* Specific educational interests and evidence of educational ideas or project work.


Qualifications

* Medical Degree from recognised medical school
* MRCP UK or equivalent
* Higher degree (MD or PHD)
