Overview
We are looking for a Band 6 Nurse to join our dedicated Substance Misuse Team in a development role within the speciality of Substance Misuse in a prison setting. The role is part of an integrated healthcare delivery model that combines Mental Health, Physical Health, Pharmacy and Clinical Substance Misuse to improve wellbeing and support better outcomes for prisoners.
Responsibilities
* Provide high quality primary care and specialist interventions for offenders with substance misuse dependency and related physical health issues.
* Deliver comprehensive clinical assessment, risk management and safety planning for new arrivals and ongoing cases.
* Identify and manage withdrawal or sedation symptoms, and request appropriate medical interventions such as opioid replacement therapy, alcohol detoxification and benzodiazepine detoxification.
* Offer harm minimisation advice, health education and training in the administration of naloxone to patients and staff.
* Develop and maintain clinical records, ensuring confidentiality and timely documentation.
* Participate in joint and collaborative care planning, including signposting to specialist services, release planning and multidisciplinary team meetings.
* Provide supervision and mentorship to junior staff as directed, and support other prison departments with advice, consultation and training.
* Assist with resource centre services, delivering drug, alcohol and holistic healthcare activities under clinical lead direction.
* Engage in research, audit and activity statistics as required.
* Maintain communication with community drug and alcohol services, public protection panels, police, probation services, solicitors and court liaison teams.
* Uphold custodial responsibilities, including security of keys, compliance with prison procedures, reporting incidents and contributing to risk assessment and management procedures.
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse with current registration.
* Experience in substance misuse, mental health or a similar setting is desirable.
* Strong clinical assessment, risk management and therapeutic communication skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in a secure environment.
