LOCATION: New Broadcasting House, London
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £39,800 - £47,126 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
BBC Radio London is looking for a highly organised and editorially savvy Senior Journalist to lead the forward planning for our flagship Breakfast Show. This is a key leadership role, shaping the agenda and set up for the programme. You'll be responsible for identifying the stories that matter most to Londoners, booking high-profile guests, and ensuring the show is always one step ahead.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
Lead the editorial planning for the BBC Radio London Breakfast Show.
Identify and develop original story ideas and guest opportunities.
Build and maintain strong relationships with contacts across London's communities, institutions, and public bodies.
Work closely with the programme's Senior Producer, reporters, and presenter to shape the show's editorial direction.
Ensure coverage is inclusive, representative, and aligned with the BBC's editorial standards.
React swiftly to breaking news and adjust plans accordingly.
Cover for the Senior Producer in outputting the show as required.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
Significant experience in broadcast journalism, ideally in a planning or editorial leadership role and experience of studio producing live speech programmes.
Excellent news judgment and a deep understanding of London's political, social, and cultural landscape.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
A collaborative mindset and the ability to inspire and lead a team.
A passion for public service broadcasting and an understanding of the changing needs of audiences.
