Estimator – Civil Engineering & Utilities

We are seeking a proactive, driven, and experienced Estimator/ Quantity Surveyor with a strong background in civil engineering and utilities. The ideal candidate will be commercially astute, highly organised, and capable of managing the full lifecycle of new works contracts — from first enquiry through to completion — ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest standard.
You will play a key role in the operations team, overseeing multiple schemes of varying scale, scope, and contract type, with values ranging from £1,000 to £3m. You will provide expert commercial and contractual advice, directly influencing the profitability and success of each project.
Role & Responsibilities:
Price all projects in line with tender specifications
Source relevant resources, materials, and labour with procurement team support
Collate all costing information and confirm resource availability
Manage interim payment schedules and final accounts
Produce weekly costing reports, budget reviews, and updates on upcoming projects for directors
Record and report on additions/variations, securing prior client approval
Brief project managers on project requirements and budgets before work begins
Maintain excellent client communication and customer focus throughout project delivery
Monitor resource allocation and project schedules against budget forecasts
Liaise with the office team for administration and financial support
Key Skills & Attributes:
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an estimating role
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the civil engineering/utilities sector
Ideally from a utilities contractor or ICP (Independent Connections Provider) background
Strong commercial and financial awareness with confident numerical skills
Ability to build strong relationships with customers and suppliers
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, at all levels
Proven ability to manage multiple projects, prioritise workload, and meet deadlines
Highly organised, self-motivated, and IT proficient (Word, Excel, Outlook)
