Job Description:
Are you an Assistant Quantity Surveyor / Quantity Surveyor? Based in a commutable distance to Bristol and looking for a new adventure? Thatcher Associates has an opportunity to join a dynamic, high-end regional developer in Bristol.
We have an Assistant Quantity Surveyor position available within a regional, high-specification/luxury housebuilder. We are interested in hearing from Graduates, Assistants, Trainees, and slightly more experienced Surveyors seeking the next step in their career. The role involves working on both new builds and listed building conversions and refurbishments. We are looking for someone interested in working for a smaller, friendly, financially stable business that offers good work-life balance, career progression, and skill development support. The hiring manager prefers a Surveyor with some onsite experience working for a developer or contractor, comfortable working on site and engaging with clients and subcontractors when needed.
Joining this company offers the chance to develop an extensive portfolio, working on diverse housing schemes, including complex, high-luxury standard residential developments.
Responsibilities:
* Support senior commercial staff with contract documents, including bills of quantities with the architect and/or the client;
* Assist in risk, value management, and cost control;
* Identify, analyze, and respond to commercial risks;
* Assist with valuing completed work and arranging payments;
* Maintain awareness of current building contracts;
* Understand health and safety regulations implications;
* Assist in preparing contracts with details on required materials;
* Value completed work and manage payments to contractors;
* Conduct site visits, assessments, and projections for future work;
* Analyze outcomes and prepare progress reports.
Skills:
* Strong numeracy and financial management skills, with the ability to learn sophisticated IT packages for design and costing;
* Ability to write clear, precise reports and communicate complex information simply;
* Negotiation and teamwork skills, with the ability to motivate and lead on site;
* Knowledge of current building and construction technology, processes, materials, and legal matters;
* Relevant industry qualification (ONC/HNC/BSc or equivalent), including part-time students;
* Experience working on UK construction sites;
* Commercial and contractual awareness with a proven track record with reputable UK companies;
* Right to live and work in the UK;
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages.
