Position at DNEG The Lead FX Technical Director is primarily responsible for leading a team of FX Artists. This role works as a hands-on collaborator with the FX, VFX and CG Supervisor to ensure that all delivered shots maintain rigorous standards and support the creative vision of the show.Lead FX TDs at DNEG gather a variety of 3D assets produced by our Build, Layout and Animation departments and use off the shelf software - primarily Houdini - and custom pipeline tools to create high-quality particle, pyro, rigid body, fluid, cloth, fur and hair simulations for top VFX Feature Films.Must have
1. Proven production experience on multiple high-end feature films
2. Proven experience in producing effects such as smoke, fire, clouds, water, steam and explosions, plus experience with particle and voxel based rendering
3. An eye for details, good sense of timing, and thorough understanding of techniques and technologies relating to physical simulation in computer graphics
4. Experience in feature animation FX work
5. Extensive knowledge of Houdini
6. Familiarity with pipeline issues and problem solving
7. Familiarity with at least one node based compositing application (Nuke preferred), and a solid understanding of the compositing process
Nice to have
8. Experience in other areas of visual effects (Film, TV, Games) will also be taken into account
9. A good general TD background
10. Maya, Python, Hscript or Mel knowledge
11. Strong understanding of Linux/Unix based operating systems
