Job Vacancy

Midlothian Council invites applications for the role of ‘Senior Roads officer (Roads planning and Traffic)’ working as part of Road services based in Midlothian House Dalkeith (currently relocated to Fairfield House).

You will join a diverse team delivering variety of roads projects to include construction, road safety and planning approvals often working collaboratively over various projects with both internal and external colleagues. Currently we are working on exciting projects such as urbanisation of routes, new carriageway construction, active travel to new school campus’s and circa 100 RCC developments.

The successful candidate will fulfil the role of statutory consultee on planning applications as well as support to the wider road services team delivering a range of different projects to include road safety, connectivity upgrades and asset improvement. Candidates will find a supportive workplace however will also be given autonomy to turnkey deliver projects from concept design>procurement>delivery with support from junior officers and peers.

KNOWLEDGE:

Jobholders must hold a Degree in Engineering relevant to specialism or equivalent and have previous experience in Highway design, asset management or roads maintenance experience along with experience in the area of specialism applied for.

Previous experience in the use of Microsoft Office, or similar software packages, together with knowledge of relevant quality assurance systems is also essential.

Category B licence is essential to undertake site based elements of the role.

Experience of staff management in desirable

Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.

Based on you working 36 hours over 52 weeks per year the minimum actual salary for this position is £48,370.86 per annum.

Compliance with the mandatory Cabinet Office PSN (Public Sector Network) Code of Connection requires the Council to meet a baseline personal security standard. This requires completion of a disclosure check for all employees who can access official information. The fee for this PSN Disclosure check will be met by you.

Please note that Disclosure Scotland has changed the way disclosure certificates are issued. You will be notified by email from Disclosure Scotland that your certificate is available to view. Once you have viewed your certificate you will be allowed to share this with your employer and it is only available for 14 days from the first day you have viewed the certificate. If you do not grant access to Midlothian Council to view before access is removed, a further application will need to be generated, and this will incur an additional cost.
