Senior Commercial Procurement Category Manager
Position Overview
The Senior Commercial Procurement Category Manager is responsible for the end-to-end strategy, value creation, and innovation enablement across strategically critical ingredients and pre-mix direct material categories. This role serves as a strategic business partner to R&D, Operations, Commercial, Product Strategic Management (PSM), and Finance—delivering competitive advantage through supply market intelligence, supplier innovation, total cost leadership, and speed-to-market enablement.
Key Accountabilities
Category Strategy & Value Roadmap
1. Develop and execute multi-year category strategies aligned to enterprise growth objectives.
2. Build and manage value creation roadmaps (cost savings, avoidance, innovation, working capital, resilience).
3. Serve as Regional or Global Category Owner as assigned.
4. Deliver measurable procurement value contribution.
Innovation & New Product Enablement
5. Embed procurement into the product development lifecycle.
6. Enable rapid sourcing solutions for new product launches.
7. Partner with R&D to identify innovative suppliers and emerging technologies.
8. Reduce commercialization cycle time through proactive supplier engagement.
Total Cost & Financial Leadership
9. Develop should-cost and total cost of ownership models.
10. Lead complex negotiations and contracting strategies.
11. Model make-vs-buy and scenario-based cost analysis.
12. Drive transparent savings tracking and benefit realization.
Supplier Ecosystem Leadership
13. Act as Supplier Relationship Owner for strategic suppliers.
14. Lead quarterly and annual executive supplier reviews.
15. Drive joint innovation and cost-reduction initiatives.
16. Establish KPIs, scorecards, and performance governance.
Risk & Supply Assurance
17. Monitor global market trends and commodity risks.
18. Develop risk mitigation and dual-sourcing strategies.
19. Lead business continuity planning within category.
Procurement Governance & Process Leadership
20. Lead end-to-end sourcing events (RFI/RFQ/RFP).
21. Ensure compliance with procurement policies and contracting standards.
22. Own or co-own major Procurement Work Processes.
23. Drive continuous improvement in sourcing methodologies.
Cross-Functional & Executive Partnership
24. Build alignment across Operations, Finance, R&D, Quality, and Commercial teams.
25. Present strategy and value outcomes to senior leadership.
26. Influence decision-making in a matrixed global organization.
People Leadership & Capability Development
27. Lead and develop a team of sourcing professionals.
28. Shape organization design and resource allocation.
29. Drive talent development and succession planning.
Commercial Liaison
30. Own relationship between Commercial/PSM and Category.
31. Lead Customer RFP pricing responsibilities.
32. Prepare and present market intelligence reports to Commercial/PSM.
33. Support Traded division with market pricing and portfolio building opportunities.
Qualifications
34. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, Finance, or related field.
35. 7+ years progressive strategic procurement experience in food, ingredient, or FMCG industry.
36. 3+ years leading complex cross-functional projects.
37. MBA or CPSM/CPM certification preferred.
38. Demonstrated experience in innovation sourcing and category strategy ownership.
