Responsibilities
* Conduct regular Rheumatology outpatient clinics, injection clinics and emergency clinics.
* Work closely with the Biologics Administrator to ensure rapid and safe escalation to biologics when required and attend the weekly Virtual Biologics Clinic.
* Collaborate with the Early Inflammatory Arthritis Coordinator to comply with National EIA Audit requirements, resolve audit queries and maintain a complete patient database for the service.
* Cross cover for the Rheumatology SpR by seeing ward referrals at King George Hospital and work alongside consultant colleagues to provide comprehensive clinical services, including support to nursing staff.
* Participate in the electronic Advice and Guidance service as part of a weekly rota, supporting primary care in obtaining rapid advice and preventing unnecessary referrals.
* Provide repeat prescriptions for DMARDs for patients without a Shared Care Guideline, following requests from the DMARD monitoring nurse, emails or nurse advice line; complete subcutaneous methotrexate prescriptions, IM Depomedrone prescriptions for the nurse clinic, infusion prescriptions (approximately 40‑50 per week) and KGH healthcare‑at‑home prescriptions (approximately 35‑40 per week).
* Attend departmental Business, Quality and Safety, and Academic meetings; undertake continued professional development and Medical Audit activities in line with RCP guidelines, contributing to the effective functioning of the Department.
* Undertake education and supervision of medical students and attend the monthly Essex Rheumatology Association (ERA) meetings as part of SPA activity.
* Support the delivery of the National Health Service Plan, including e‑Referrals for indirect and direct booking of outpatients; collaborate with colleagues in developing and delivering services and actively manage patients to ensure compliance with RTT targets.
