Job overview

Are you a Dietitian looking for a new challenge in a unique and rewarding clinical setting? Would you like to work autonomously while still feeling supported and connected to a wider team?

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Band 7 Advanced Dietitian to join our Adult Forensic Services (AFS) at the Riverside Centre on a part-time basis (0.8 WTE/30 hours).

You will lead the dietetic input across our low and medium secure forensic inpatient units, supporting service users with complex mental and physical health needs on their recovery journey. This is a specialist and autonomous post where your expertise will directly shape care and outcomes.


Main duties of the job

* Supporting patients who are underweight or at refeeding risk
* Delivering tailored weight management advice and interventions
* Providing diabetes education and dietary management
* Delivering individual dietetic assessments and group education sessions

You’ll work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to deliver evidence based, person-centred care, and you’ll be a visible advocate for the role of nutrition in mental health recovery in the AFS.

Although this is a standalone post within AFS, you won’t be working in isolation. You will have access to:

We provide inpatient and community-based mental health care for people living in Bolton, the city of Manchester, Salford, Trafford and the borough of Wigan, and a wide range of specialist mental health and substance misuse services across Greater Manchester, the north west of England and beyond.


Detailed job description and main responsibilities

* 27 days annual leave plus bank holidays rising to 29 after 5 years and 33 days after 10 years


Person specification


Education / Qualifications

* Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or degree and post graduate qualification in Dietetics. HCPC registered Dietician Evidence of CPD and Professional Portfolio
* British Dietetic Association Specialist Courses. Advanced Diploma in Dietetic Practice. Completed, currently accessing or willing to undertake master’s level programme. Post graduate training relevant to mental health such as cognitive behavioural counselling, motivational interviewing skills. Clinical supervision skills. Leadership and management training or qualification. Specialist training


Experience

* Significant demonstrable post registration experience in various clinical settings and age groups relevant to the post. Ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team. Extensive clinical experience in a range of mental health settings. Participation in service development. Experience of managing/supervising junior team members or a team
* Experience of assessing and managing the nutritional needs of mental health service users, including: dementia, forensic, adolescent, alcohol and drugs and general adults. Collaborative and partnership working. Experience of facilitating health promotion sessions. Developing service user leaflets and training resources. Liaison with catering services. Supervising Dietetic students. Experience of working within a secure setting and with patient group


Knowledge

* Specialist knowledge and application of current best practice in both physical and mental health settings. Ability to contribute towards strategic planning. Effective leadership skills and the willingness to develop. Planning and decision-making skills. Ability to maintain professional and personal boundaries. Presentation and training skills.
