We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Business Services Operational Support Team.

\n

The successful candidate will play a key role in coordinating and overseeing a team of support staff that provides essential support to a range of services across the council. This role requires strong organisational and communication skills, with a focus on ensuring that day-to-day administrative tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard.

\n

Working closely with managers and service leads, the Administrative Assistant will help prioritise workloads, monitor performance, and ensure the team responds flexibly to the changing demands of different departments. This is a varied and fast-paced role that offers the opportunity to contribute to the smooth running of key council services.

KNOWLEDGE:

\n

Education:

\n

Essential: Jobholders require a minimum of two SCE Higher Grades or equivalent and evidence of competency in literacy and numeracy such as a minimum of three Standard Grade level passes to include English and Mathematics.

\n

Experience:

\n

Essential: Jobholders would be expected to have experience in working in a Local Government environment and have an understanding computer based financial management and reporting systems in use with Council services. S/he must also have knowledge and demonstrable experience of using Microsoft Office packages.

\n

Desirable: It would be desirable if jobholders had experience at involving the supervision and training of staff.

\n

Requirements

Contract Status: Fixed Term until 31/10/2027

\n

Hours of Work: 36 hours per week

\n

Working Pattern: Monday - Friday

\n

Weeks per year: 52

\n

Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.

\n

Based on 36 hours over 52 weeks per year, the minimum actual salary for this position is £28,440.19 per annum.

Responsibilities

Compliance with the mandatory Cabinet Office PSN (Public Sector Network) Code of Connection requires the Council to meet a baseline personal security standard. This requires completion of a disclosure check for all employees who can access official information. The fee for this PSN Disclosure check will be met by you.

\n

Please note that Disclosure Scotland has changed the way certificates are issued. You will be notified by email from Disclosure Scotland that your certificate is available to view. Once you have viewed your certificate you will be allowed to share this with your employer and it is only available for 14 days from the first day you have viewed the certificate. If you do not grant access to Midlothian Council to view before access is removed, a further application will need to be generated, and this will incur an additional cost.
