VAT Manager

This firm has seen a significant increase in the complexity of its clients' indirect tax requirements and is now looking for a dedicated VAT Manager to lead the function in Exeter. This is not a role for someone who just wants to oversee returns. The Partners want a specialist who can provide high-level advisory support on property transactions, international trade, and partial exemption across a diverse South West client base.
The Role

Manage a portfolio of VAT advisory and compliance matters for a range of clients, including corporate groups, land-based businesses, and charitable organisations.

Lead on complex advisory projects, such as VAT planning for property acquisitions, cross-border services, and HMRC disclosures.

Act as the technical point of contact for VAT queries from the audit and accounts teams, providing clear and commercial guidance.
*
Review complex VAT returns and ensure the firm’s clients are fully compliant with Making Tax Digital requirements.
*
Contribute to business development by identifying VAT savings for existing clients and building relationships with local professional intermediaries.
About You

CTA qualified or a former HMRC Inspector with a strong background in VAT within a practice or boutique environment.
*
Experienced in handling a broad range of indirect tax issues and comfortable providing standalone advisory letters.
*
Technically excellent with the ability to research complex VAT legislation and apply it to real-world commercial scenarios.
*
A confident communicator who can explain the nuances of VAT to non-specialist clients and colleagues.
*
Proactive and organised, with the ability to manage multiple advisory projects alongside the compliance cycle.
