Overview
Lagganlia is looking to add up to three new staff to its Associate (Casual Contract) Outdoor Education Instructor Team. Based close to Aviemore in the Cairngorms National Park, Lagganlia reopened post-Covid as a fully refurbished residential outdoor learning centre. Our primary role is to provide outdoor learning residentials for the young people of Edinburgh. This post is a part of Lagganlia Centre for Outdoor Learning, which is part of the City of Edinburgh's Outdoor Learning Team.
Contract type: Full time / Seasonal or Fixed term. Location: Aviemore, Cairngorm National Park. Salary: £20.34 per hour + holiday pay. Closing date: 12 Sep 2025 03:10 PM. This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the PVG Act requirements; PVG checks and, where applicable, overseas checks are described below.
Responsibilities
* Work as part of the Associate (Casual Contract) Outdoor Education Instructor Team to deliver a range of adventurous outdoor education experiences.
* Design and deliver programmes tailored to visiting schools, with instructors given ownership to shape the weekly outcomes in line with Curriculum for Excellence and school-identified targets.
* Support and contribute to the planning of residential weeks, with staffing programmed up to six months in advance to meet demand.
* Utilise Lagganlia's access to wilderness environments and on-site facilities for activities such as skiing/snowboarding, sailing, canoeing, mountaineering, rafting, climbing, kayaking, canyoning, mountain biking, archery, orienteering, skiing and high ropes.
* Engage in regular staff training weeks that include technical and educational development.
* Collaborate with the team to contribute to Edinburgh schools’ Learning for Sustainability targets.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Experience delivering outdoor education aligned with Scotland's Curriculum for Excellence and the ability to adapt programmes to deliver specified outcomes.
* Willingness to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check; where applicable, provide an Overseas Criminal Record Check if required by travel history.
* Ability to work in a dynamic, demand-driven environment with flexible weeks and variable numbers of instructional weeks per year.

* Proven ability to contribute to a positive organisational culture and work collaboratively within a team and with partner schools.

The salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and increases annually to the top of the range. The candidate will be subject to pre-employment checks including PVG and, if applicable, an Overseas Criminal Record Check.
