Were on the hunt for an experienced, M&E Quantity Surveyor to join a high-performing project team in Hull. This isn't your average QS role — you'll be driving cost strategy on a complex, £50m+ project in the advanced manufacturing and life sciences sector. If you've got sharp commercial instincts, contract confidence, and a love for spreadsheets (and maybe a bit of sarcasm), read on.
The Role:
You'll take the reins on end-to-end cost management — budgeting, forecasting, contract wrangling, and making sure everything adds up (literally). Working closely with the Regional Commercial Lead, you'll steer supply chain selection (hello local SMEs!), manage JCT D&B contracts, and be the calm voice in a sea of cost reports, risk registers, and change controls.
Oh, and you'll be mentoring junior team members too — because greatness should be shared.
What You'll Be Doing:
* Cost Management: Cost plans, CVRs, forecasts. Keep budgets on track and surprises to a minimum.
* Subcontractor Evaluation: Support package procurement and squeeze value from every pound spent.
* Risk & Change Control: Maintain the risk register, handle project changes, and keep everyone honest.
* Contract Admin: Review, negotiate, and manage NEC, JCT, or whatever acronym the client throws your way.
* Supply Chain Management: Prequalify, procure, and partner with local, reliable subcontractors.
* Collaboration: Work closely with project leads and clients to deliver smoothly and smartly.
You'll excel in this role if you:
* Have a degree in Quantity Surveying or similar (extra credit for RICS/CIOB letters after your name)
* Know your way around JCT D&B and NEC contracts like the back of your hand
* Have solid M&E experience and can read BIM models like bedtime stories
* Enjoy mentoring and bringing others up with you
* Are fluent in Excel and can hold your own in SAP, COINS, ORACLE, CostX, Bluebeam, or PowerBI
* Can spot a contractual loophole faster than a lawyer on a deadline
You'll work on cutting-edge projects with a team that's smart, driven, and not afraid of a challenge. If you're looking to grow your career, make a real impact, and occasionally enjoy a good coffee-fuelled contract clause debate — you'll be in the right place.
On offer:
Negotiable basic salary (between £65k - £85k)
