Clinical Healthcare Support Worker - Band 3

Across the Trust, our Endoscopy departments perform a variety of standard and advanced Endoscopic procedures for both out‑patients and in‑patients including gastroscopy, sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy, bronchoscopy, percutaneous endoscopic gastroscopy (PEG) insertion, oesophageal stenting and ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangio‑pancreatography). Other specialist work is also undertaken by individual consultants.

Our departments are presently offer a 7 day service including bank holidays. Our current hours of opening are 8am until 7pm.


Main duties of the job

* To decontaminate and process endoscopes and other equipment.
* To assist in the delivery of safe patient care, under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.
* To contribute to the efficient running of the endoscopy unit as directed by the Registered Nurse.
* To assist in the induction of new staff as directed by the Registered Nurse.
* To undertake delegated duties related to patient care that contribute to their treatment plans.
* To support patients and their families with care and compassion at all stages of their procedure.
* To promote and uphold the privacy, dignity, rights, health and wellbeing of people accessing our services.
* To work in accordance with Trust policies and procedures and operate within the boundaries of the role and sphere of assessed competencies.
* To maintain standards of work and care through regular updates.


About us

Louth County Hospital serves the communities of Louth and the local area. The Endoscopy Department has had recent expansion. An outpatients department as well as an Urgent Treatment Centre, x‑ray, MRI, physio and Archer Ward.

Lincoln Hospital is a thriving university city and with the opening of the medical school, it provides all major specialties and a 24‑hour major accident and emergency service.

United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust has been granted teaching hospital status, after demonstrating evidence to significant teaching commitment. From now on it will be known as United Lincolnshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Grantham and District Hospital serves the communities of Grantham and the local area. It provides ambulatory paediatric and accident and emergency services.

Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust (LCHS) and United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULHT) have come together in a Group arrangement, with the goal of improving the care provided to patients across the county.

This will not constitute a formal merger of the two organisations, but will bring the Trusts together under a single Board and Executive Leadership Team, with the goal of improving the care that is provided to patients both in the community and in hospitals across Lincolnshire. Both Trusts will retain their separate statutory names and legal obligations.

The Group will be known as Lincolnshire Community and Hospitals NHS Group (LCHG).


Person Specification


Qualifications

* Literacy and numeracy qualifications equivalent to Functional Skills level 1 or above (e.g. GCSE grade E or above)
* Evidence of the Care Certificate or commitment to achieve on joining Trust
* Motivated to develop knowledge and skills and to undertake self‑development
* NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Care or equivalent qualification or relevant experience.
* Understanding of the Code of Conduct for Health Care Support Workers and Adult Social Care Workers in England.


Previous Experience

* Significant experience of the NHS and/or health/child care and an interest in the speciality with knowledge of wider issues relating to health care.
* Clear understanding of professional accountability, delegation and professionalism related to the role of a band 3 worker.
* Makes a positive contribution as a team player and demonstrates awareness of importance of working as part of a team.
* Able to deliver a high standard of care for patients and always striving to improve on what you do through change and innovation.
* Able to communicate effectively with patients/relatives and carers and all members of the multi‑disciplinary team.
* Is sensitive to the impact and implications of decisions and activities undertaken on other professionals.
* Able to work under minimal supervision but fully aware when to escalate concerns to a registered practitioner.
* Flexible, adaptable, organised with good time management skills.
* Ability to cope effectively under pressure and resilient and work within the team to manage complex and challenging situations.
* Good written and verbal communication skills.
* Excellent interpersonal skills with tact, diplomacy, empathy and understanding.
* IT skills in order to access required systems such as electronic patient records.
* Ability to evidence/demonstrate key values and behaviours in line with the Trust framework.
* Working knowledge of Health and Safety, Infection Prevention and Manual Handling.


Specific Requirements

* Able to prioritise and to organise and motivate oneself and others to achieve delegated tasks.
* Flexible approach to shift patterns and unit needs which may involve working in different areas or cross‑site working.
* Able to effectively and appropriately elevate concerns to reduce risk and promote patient safety.
* Able to use own initiative within the boundaries of the role and able to motivate oneself and others.

£25,760 to £27,476 a yearper annum, pro rata for part time
