Job Title: Family Support Worker (Home Based with Travel)
Our client, a well-established organisation in NI, is seeking to recruit a Family Support Worker to join their dedicated team. This role is home-based with travel within Antrim or the North West area.
The main aim of this position is to provide support and information to people affected by illness and their families, helping to maintain their independence and lead as normal a life as possible. The role involves empowering clients to access their full entitlements, keeping them informed of disease management developments, and assisting them in connecting with others affected by similar illnesses.
Responsibilities:
* Provide support and information to members via home visits, telephone, email, and other communication channels.
* Maximise membership by fostering good relationships and effective referral processes with statutory bodies.
* Respond to enquiries about the illness and the organisation's work, offering support or signposting to other services.
* Advocate for individuals' needs when liaising with other organisations.
* Facilitate regional support groups and opportunities for members to connect.
* Raise awareness of the organisation through engagement, information sharing, and training with statutory and community/voluntary organisations.
* Contribute to the development of print and online materials, including web content and newsletters.
* Maintain accurate records of daily activities.
* Provide general administrative support to the organisation.
* Ensure compliance with all policies.
* Contribute to the development and implementation of strategies and operational plans.
* Assist with member activities such as befriending, awareness raising, events, youth activities, and fundraising as required.
Hours of Work:
* Flexible working hours to attend events, meetings, and visits as required.
Requirements:
* Qualification in social care, social work, nursing, counselling, or a related field.
* At least 2 years' experience working with individuals or families with complex needs, preferably in mental health or disability sectors.
* Understanding of statutory and voluntary services available to carers and people with disabilities or serious illnesses.
* Ability to work calmly and professionally in crisis situations.
* Exceptional communication skills, empathy, and a non-judgmental attitude.
* Self-motivated, well-organised, with strong administrative skills.
* Understanding of client confidentiality and collaborative working; ability to travel independently within the service area.
* Flexible and efficient in meeting clients' and the organisation's needs.
* Dedicated home workspace.
* Full driving licence, updated car insurance (for business use), and access to transport.
* Passionate about helping people.
