Job Title: Farm Projects Assistant
Following its successful expansion, Forge Mill farm is seeking a highly motivated individual passionate about food and farming to join its growing team. The Farm Projects Assistant will support the development and delivery of various projects as part of our public-facing operations.
Location and Background
Based in Sandwell Valley Country Park, Forge Mill farm has access to approximately 1200 acres of grassland, wetlands, and public access areas. As an approved rare breed centre, it welcomes over 100,000 visitors annually through events that showcase food and farming.
Role Responsibilities
* Assist with the preparation and execution of development projects, including fencing and other farm-related initiatives.
* Support on and off-farm events and enhance visitor offerings.
* Provide 'after hours' support during peak periods such as lambing season and summer events.
* Implement strategic grazing and feeding plans, including regenerative grazing practices across our livestock.
About the Farm
Forge Mill Farm is proud to be an RBST Approved Rare Breed Centre, committed to conserving at-risk livestock species alongside commercial breeds. The farm emphasizes food production, provenance, and education for visitors.
Team and Reporting
You will work under the Farm Manager and Assistant Farm Manager, as part of a team including farm operatives, apprentices, and volunteers, maintaining animal welfare, site, and facilities, and preparing for various events and projects throughout the year.
Candidate Requirements
* Experience in agricultural operations.
* Passion for creating an educational, visitor-focused farm environment.
* Knowledge of industry practices and current developments.
* Willingness to work a rota that includes early starts, weekends, and evenings.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
* Positive attitude, team spirit, and ability to work in all weather conditions.
* Level 2 qualification in Agriculture, Livestock/Animal Management, Horticulture, or related field.
* Experience with agricultural machinery and equipment.
* Practical land-based or agricultural experience.
* Full, valid driving license.
* Tractor and Telehandler licenses or willingness to obtain these on the job.
