Road Asset Inspector

Full Time / Permanent, 40 Hours per week, Monday – Friday, OT Available
BEAR Scotland is a leading provider of highway maintenance services across Scotland. We manage and maintain over 2,000km of Scotland’s trunk road network, tackling just about every imaginable task and working round the clock to help keep Scotland moving.
The Northwest Trunk Road Unit spans some 1,422km of trunk road through some of the most scenic parts of the country. It covers a huge area of Scotland, from Thurso and Wick in the very north of the Highlands down to Campbeltown in Argyll and Bute, from Uig on Skye to Perth and Stirling.
We have vacancies for Road Asset Inspectors to join our existing operations team in the Northwest team, based out of our Head Office in Perth. Our Road Asset Inspectors are responsible for recording defects that represent a hazard to the travelling public.
Role includes:
Undertaking weekly Safety Inspections to record defects that represent a hazard to the travelling public and, where safe to do so, carrying out minor repairs.
Undertaking monthly night-time Safety Inspections of illuminated assets
Walked condition inspections to visually assess the condition of the assets to identify defects that will contribute to the establishment of programmes of routine maintenance tasks
Walked conditions inspections to validate the inventory held in the Transport Scotland Asset Management Performance System and to collect and update the inventory when changes are made.
Level of flexibility required for travelling
On occasion, this role will include overnight stays
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
A full driving licence is essential
Due to the nature of this work, candidates will be subject to the basic disclosure process through Disclosure Scotland
Previous experience of road maintenance(desirable) Training will be provided
Attention to detail
Good computer skills due to use of Transport Scotland’s Asset Management Performance System.
Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel (desirable)
