JOB DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Head of Logistics & Supply Chain as the lead member of the procurement team. Managing procurement processes with suppliers to improve quality, reliability, and traceability, reduce product costs, and ensure continuous supply of all components. Responsible for contracting and purchasing all ingredients and packaging for the company, along with managing contracts with own brand suppliers.
GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Manage relationships with external suppliers, focusing on purchasing raw materials, packaging, and consumables.
2. Ensure the availability of raw materials and packaging to support production continuity, customer service, cost, and inventory objectives.
3. Establish raw material suitability based on briefs; review and approve supplier selection, including capability assessments and development.
4. Manage supplier risk assessments.
5. Ensure strict material control, accurate recording, and verification of stock.
6. Collaborate with Production, Sales, Marketing, and Technical teams to evaluate new and existing materials, staying updated on market trends.
7. Foster excellent interdepartmental relationships.
8. Develop procurement processes and strengthen supplier relationships across the business.
9. Conduct negotiations with suppliers to achieve optimal benefits for the company.
10. Engage with local farmers and grain merchants regarding contracts, organic certification, and quality issues.
11. Coordinate with farmers and grain merchants for future harvest contracts, testing, approval, and post-harvest arrangements.
12. Cover for the supply chain & logistics planner during annual leave.
13. Arrange import licenses as needed.
14. Organize ingredient deliveries via various transport modes.
15. Participate in TACCP team, reporting on supply changes based on availability, price, harvest yield, etc.
16. Conduct internal audits as part of the site team.
17. Manage one direct report, a junior buyer.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
EDUCATION
Degree or equivalent. Desirable: Basic Food Hygiene, CIPS, Audit training.
EXPERIENCE
At least 3 years of purchasing/procurement experience in an FMCG company. Knowledge of contracting commodities or grain. Experience in supplier relationship and contract management.
SKILLS
Proven negotiation skills. Excellent Microsoft Excel skills. Well-organized and structured. Strong influencing skills. Good business acumen and analytical skills. Desirable: Multilingual, experience with MRP systems.
