Job Summary
You will play a pivotal role in ensuring that NHSBT continues to be at the fore-front of research and innovation, in relation to organ donation and transplantation.
You will be responsible for assessing research proposals and providing advice to the Senior Management Team regarding which should be supported. You will also work closely with the newly established Research Operational Feasibility Group (ROFG) to build on the current processes and policies and for the transparent and equitable allocation of organs for research.
Working with nationally and internationally renowned researchers, you will support the delivery of projects that will increase the number of people whose lives can be saved or dramatically improved through an organ transplant.
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for being the main point of contact within the Organ Tissue Donation and Transplant (OTDT) Directorate regarding research. You will be required to :
1. Ensure that OTDT has robust systems for considering proposals for research regarding organ donation and transplantation and monitoring progress with approve research and service evaluations.
2. Provide specialised advice to the Senior Management Team on research relating to organ donation and related areas.
3. Supporting research proposals through the NHSBT approval process.
4. Ensuring that research and service evaluation projects approved by NHSBT adhere to internal and legislative requirements, including Human Tissue Authority and ethics approval
5. Liaison with and management of internal and external stakeholders and the associated project management of national and international Organ Donation related research projects.
6. Secretariat support for the Research Operational Feasibility Group (ROFG) and associated sub-groups.
About You
Experience and Knowledge
7. Specialist knowledge of the Research Governance and Legislative Framework for conducting research for Health and Social Care and other relevant national and international guidelines for Good Clinical Practice / Specialist knowledge of the UK wide systems and structures for the approval, management and monitoring of research in the NHS
8. Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Project and other Office Automation packages, in particular Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Visio so that coherent plans and documentation can be produced
9. Knowledge and experience of data collection requirements according to good clinical practice
10. Experience of writing reports, business cases, analysing and presenting information suitable for Senior Management and Executive Teams
Qualifications and Training
11. Degree in a scientific or business subject or equivalent qualification / experience
12. Post graduate diploma in a relevant subject or equivalent relevant experience for example research, healthcare or project management
13. Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD)
