Senior EC&I Engineer

Main Purpose of Job:
Definition and distribution of the scope of work to ensure that all work is executed safely, on time and at appropriate levels of quality. Delivery of all design and engineering to meet the requirements of Design Reviews and HAZOPs within Project procedures. Supervision of less experienced engineering employees, engineering resource management and interviews.
Position in Organisation:
1. Reporting to Principal Engineers with ultimate line management responsibilities being with the Chief Engineer within your discipline
2. Reports to Principal Engineer, Team Leader or Department Manager
3. Normally supervises a design or project team of up to 5 engineering staff, although the team may be supplemented by staff from elsewhere.
4. Responsible for the allocation of work and managing quality, progress and cost of the work carried out within the project
5. Responsible for managing project subcontracts
6. Regularly interacts with clients and managers of other engineering disciplines
7. Responsible for communications within project team on your allotment of the project
Key Accountabilities:
8. Design, Specification, Procurement, Supply/Manufacture Liaison, Installation, Acceptance Testing, Commissioning and Operator Training in Nuclear Engineering Projects
9. Liaison with multi disciplines
10. Technical Consultancy
11. Project Management including quality, progress and cost control including documentation
12. Sales Support and Customer care
13. Manage Contractors and Sub Contractors, Staff Development
14. Manage safety by developing and reinforcing the safety culture, compliance with safety regulations (eg. CDM and CE marking), and the application of safety systems
Experience and attributes required for the role:
Essential for an EC&I Engineer:
15. Degree qualified in a relevant technical / engineering discipline or demonstrable experience
16. A full UK driver’s licence
17. Working towards Chartered Engineer status (where applicable)
18. Minimum 5 years’ experience in the Nuclear industry
19. Demonstrable competence in a design/delivery position within a project based environment
20. Understanding of design requirements to support nuclear safety cases
Significant experience in two or more of the following specific EC&I areas:
21. Mechanical Handling (including Remote in-cell handling)
22. Process Instrumentation
23. Functional Safety (to BS EN 61508/BS EN 61511)
24. Machinery Safety (including BS EN 60204 and BS EN 13849)
25. LV Distribution Systems (including experience in Trimble Pro-design)
26. Experience of managing sub-contracts
27. Knowledge of safety regulations including CDM
28. Experience of checking design documentation including drawings and supporting calculations
29. Experience and/or ability of leading a technical team within a professional project delivery environment
30. Organisation & Collaborations skills
31. Demonstrable expertise in working to tight deadlines
32. Quality & service driven attitude
33. High level of commercial awareness
34. Experience of leading design teams
Desirable for an EC&I Engineer:
35. Chartered Engineer and candidates nearing chartership are preferred. Membership to appropriate institutions is preferred e.g. IET
36. EC&I design integration with control systems (PLC/SCADA) would be advantageous.
37. Experience of Design Substantiation to support safety cases including assessment of new and existing systems.
38. Additional experience obtained within the Defence sector would be advantageous.
39. Experience of bid preparation
