Job Overview
The Discharge Team is based on both sites, the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Hayward Heath. RSCH Discharge Lounge is looking for 1 full time 37.5 hours and 1 part time 22.5 hours Band 5 Registered Nurses to join our friendly team. The operational hours will be from 08:00 - 20:00 hours currently Monday to Friday.
The Discharge Lounge helps to promote patient flow throughout the hospital site and supports our emergency and elective demand. It is available for patients to wait for transport or medications to be discharged, thereby creating available acute beds for patients being admitted to hospital.
This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route; sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds (£25000), and any role‑specific criteria.
Salary: £31,049 – £37,796 per annum (pro‑rata).

Key Responsibilities
* Follow the trust’s discharge policy and processes.
* Act as patient/carer advocate at all times.
* Provide unsupervised nursing care to patients attending the department, referring to other health care professionals as necessary.
* Prioritise care and delegate workload and lounge activities appropriately.
* Effectively and professionally deal with emergency situations.
* Ensure safe practice with regard to moving and handling, sharps and infection control etc.
* Check TTO’s prior to discharge using the Pharmacy Tracking system and EPMA, ensuring correct dispensation and follow‑up arrangements.
* Identify and report clinical and non‑clinical incidents, raising Datix when required.
* Update CareFlow system to contribute to an accurate and timely bed state.
* Ensure confidentiality of patient information is maintained and that written documentation is complete and up to date.
Qualifications / Experience
* NMC pin (UK registration).
* Recent experience in an acute hospital setting.
* General understanding of store‑keeping patient handling techniques.
* Knowledge of discharge procedures and pathways.
* Able to communicate highly sensitive information.
* Ability to prioritise and manage own workload and delegate work appropriately.
* Experience supporting students and junior members of staff.
* Experience communicating with patients about life‑threatening conditions.
Person Specification / Diversity Statement

* Evidence of undertaken own development to improve understanding of equalities issues.
* Evidence of working in the NHS Trusts especially on the wards.
