Technical Sales Manager
Role Purpose
Be a key contributing member of the Sales Team, supporting the interpretation of customer requirements and the preparation of technically and commercially compliant tender submissions for process solutions within the dairy, food and beverage industry. Use developing technical knowledge and sales capability to provide pre‑sales support, consultancy, and customer assistance under the guidance of senior sales personnel. Act as a customer‑facing technical contact throughout the sales cycle and into after‑sales, supporting a consistent, professional customer journey. Based at our offices with regular travel across the UK.
Accountabilities
* Support assigned sales projects under the direction of the Technical Sales Manager or Senior Technical Sales Engineer.
* Assist with bid qualification activities and contribute to bid reviews.
* Accurately interpret customer requirements, specifications and performance criteria, escalating queries or risks to senior team members where appropriate.
* Organise and undertake customer visits and site surveys in support of sales activities, involving senior or Project Team members.
* Support the preparation of bid and preliminary project delivery information, including timelines and scope clarifications.
* Liaise with the Design Team to support the creation of preliminary designs for tender submissions.
* Obtain supplier and partner quotations in support of the sales process, following agreed procedures and guidance.
* Assist in the preparation and maintenance of sales documentation, including quotations, compliance matrices and supporting technical information.
* Contribute to the identification of technical options, value opportunities and enhancements for inclusion in tender submissions.
* Support the preparation of costing information for sales projects, ensuring accuracy and internal alignment prior to review.
* Negotiate pricing and terms with customers and suppliers, only under guidance and within agreed parameters set by senior sales personnel.
* Support the preparation of technically and commercially accurate tender documentation for internal review and customer submission.
* Provide pre‑sales technical assistance to the Technical Sales Manager and Key Account Managers.
* Participate in sales to project handover meetings, supporting a smooth transition into delivery.
* Liaise with customers throughout the sales and early project cycle, offering technical support and building long‑term relationships.
* Actively support sales and marketing activities, including case studies, newsletters and press releases.
* Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date records within the CRM system.
* Support achievement of team and individual sales targets.
* Attend relevant trade shows, exhibitions and conferences.
* Identify opportunities through enquiries and orders to upsell parts and service.
* Contribute to the continual improvement of sales processes, tools and documentation.

Essential
* Formal qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a similar discipline
* Previous experience in technical sales or engineering role
* Knowledge and experience of the dairy, food and beverage industry
* Strong organisational, communication and interpersonal skills
* Good IT skills, competent with MS Office
* Confident customer‑facing capability
* Commercially aware, motivated and keen to develop professionally
* Ability to collaborate effectively and work as part of a wider team
* Hold a valid driving licence
Desirable
* A qualification in business studies and/or marketing
* Knowledge of CRM systems, preferably ZOHO
* Experience supporting tender or bid preparation activities
* Forward thinking with an interest in innovation and emerging technologies
