Large Volume Inorganic Chemicals (LVIC) installations are required to use ‘Best Available Techniques’ (BAT) to reduce emissions to air, water and land. We’ve established a process for the definition of BAT within the UK. The regime will use the BAT concept principles of a transparent, collaborative, data and evidence‑led process that safeguards and builds on the current high levels of environmental protection. Central to this process will be the UK BAT Author.
You’ll be responsible for drafting BAT Conclusions, liaising with Technical Working Groups and presenting a final document suitable for publication as a new, UK‑wide, environmental standard for industry.
Key Responsibilities
* Draft BAT Conclusions and technical documents.
* Liaise with Technical Working Groups.
* Present final documents suitable for publication as UK‑wide environmental standards.
* Perform specialised knowledge of the LVIC industry, process engineering and environmental issues.
* Critically analyse technical arguments and data.
* Work independently and manage projects to deliver results.
* Support incident management and inclusive development plans.
Job Requirements
* Minimum 5 years working experience and a solid understanding of environmental regulation in the LVIC industry.
* Specialist knowledge of the large volume inorganic chemicals industry.
* Excellent understanding of UK and EU industrial environmental legislation, in particular the IED and the Environmental Permitting Regulations.
* Skills in large‑scale data collection, technical analysis, and interpretation.
* Knowledge of the implications of BAT Conclusions on permits, industry and the environment.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to build and maintain relationships and consensus.
* Effective planning, prioritising and organising tasks to ensure timely results.
* Responsive to challenges, adaptable, and demonstrably inclusive of diversity issues.
