Responsibilities
* Provide high quality nursing care and participate in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the care needs for adult and paediatric patients in an emergency environment.
* Work across the Emergency Department (ED) and the Eye Referral Unit (ERU) within the A34 area.
* Deliver compassionate, person‑centred care and treat patients, service users, families and carers with dignity and respect.
* Provide relevant investigations and care with guidance from Ophthalmic Nurse Practitioners (ONP) and ED clinicians.
* Participate in supervision, teaching and assessment of unregistered, junior staff and students.
* Play an active part in the continuing development of the department and promote good communication and relationships between staff, patients, relatives and visitors.
* Assess and triage patients presenting with eye emergencies, determining the urgency of care required.
* Manage common eye conditions under established protocols.
* Provide education on eye health, preventative measures and treatment plans to empower patients.
* Coordinate referrals and collaborate with ophthalmologists or specialists when necessary.
