Be part of one of the best recycling teams in Wales. Pembrokeshire County Council is proud to have been named among the top performing Local Authorities for recycling for the last six years, and we are looking for a Waste Compliance Officer to join our innovative Waste and Recycling service.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to coordinate waste transfer activities, supervise site staff and external contractors to ensure safety and efficiency. You will manage operatives and plant, maintain accurate data reporting, and uphold high standards of site operations, safety and efficiency. You will contribute to developing innovative waste management practices aimed at reducing waste and improving recycling rates.
You will ensure that safe working practices are consistently followed and that the highest standards of service delivery are maintained. You will actively support Pembrokeshire County Council in achieving its objective of becoming a top recycling authority in Wales, contributing to a greener and cleaner Pembrokeshire. You will also play a key role in driving continuous service improvement, ensuring operations are efficient and compliant with Welsh Government targets and legislation.
Responsibilities
* Coordinate waste transfer activities, including supervising site staff and external contractors to ensure safety and efficiency.
* Manage operatives and plant, maintain accurate data reporting, and uphold high standards of site operations, safety and efficiency.
* Contribute to developing innovative waste management practices to reduce waste and improve recycling rates.
* Ensure safe working practices are consistently followed and that service delivery standards are maintained.
* Support the Council in achieving its goals of becoming a top recycling authority in Wales.
* Drive continuous service improvement and ensure operations are efficient and meet Welsh Government targets and legislative requirements.
Qualifications
* WAMITAB Level 4 Certificate in Waste and Resource Management or extensive relevant experience in waste or logistics management.
* Knowledge of waste and recycling compliance requirements, including Environmental Protection Act 1990 and related Welsh legislation.
* Supervisor or team leading experience in an operational context; ability to motivate and organise workloads.
* Strong understanding of health and safety practices, risk assessments, and relevant regulations.
* A valid driving licence is desirable, preferably with HGV and Plant Machine Operator.
* Good written and verbal communication skills; ability to convey messages clearly in plain English.
* Ability to maintain accurate records using computer programs (e.g., Microsoft Office, PCC IT systems, weighbridge software).
