We are seeking an experienced District Risk Manager to play a pivotal role in strengthening risk maturity, assurance, and culture across Hospital & Specialist Services in Te Matau a Māui.
About the Role
As District Risk Manager, you will provide district-wide oversight and leadership of risk management, ensuring national frameworks and policies are embedded and effectively applied. You will be a trusted advisor to senior leaders, working closely with Patient Safety & Quality, clinical leaders, and regional and national risk colleagues.
Your work will directly contribute to safe, high-quality care, organisational resilience, and a strong, proactive risk culture.
Key responsibilities include:
* Leading implementation and compliance with Health NZs National Risk Policy and Framework
* Providing independent oversight and assurance of risk identification, controls, and mitigation
* Supporting leaders to build risk capability and maturity across services
* Leading risk reporting, insights, and escalation at district and regional levels
* Maintaining district and regional risk profiles
* Delivering risk training and promoting a strong, learning-focused risk culture
* Working in partnership with Māori, Pacific and clinical leaders to ensure equity-focused and culturally responsive risk management

About you
You are a strategic, credible risk professional who can operate confidently in complex environments and influence at senior levels. You bring sound judgement, strong ethics, and the ability to connect people, systems, and information to drive meaningful improvement.
You will have:
* A relevant tertiary qualification
* 810+ years experience in risk management, including senior leadership experience
* Strong knowledge of risk frameworks, methodologies, and assurance practices
* Demonstrated experience working across large, complex organisations
* Advanced written and verbal communication skills
* Proven ability to influence, negotiate, and manage complexity and ambiguity
* Experience implementing Te Tiriti o Waitangi in practice and a commitment to equity
* CA and/or postgraduate qualification in risk management
* Experience in risk management within the health sector
