Key Responsibilities Purpose of the Role
To support the development and implementation of a Scientific Data Management System (SDMS) and associated AI/ML tools that connect lab‑scale process development with GMP manufacturing. The role exists to enable more efficient data capture, integration, and analysis across development and manufacturing functions, improving data-driven decision-making, process understanding, and troubleshooting capabilities for biopharmaceutical production.
Key Responsibilities
Contribute to defining the data architecture and metadata standards for the SDMS.
Support data curation, integration, and visualisation activities across process development and manufacturing datasets.
Explore and prototype AI/ML applications to optimise process development, including:
Model-assisted experimentation
Trend analysis
Early anomaly detection
Gain hands-on laboratory exposure to upstream and downstream process development, including:
Mammalian cell (CHO)–based product expression
Cell harvest operations
Protein purification
Product quality assessments (e.g. SEC-HPLC, SDS-PAGE, Octet, Biacore).
Contribute to documentation, user requirements, and system validation activities
Collaborate cross-functionally with scientists, bioinformaticians, and manufacturing teams to understand user needs and ensure the SDMS and AI tools are fit for purpose.
Education & Qualifications
Working towards a bachelor’s or integrated master’s degree in a relevant discipline, such as:
Biochemical engineering
Chemical engineering
Biotechnology
Biological sciences
Data science, computer science, or a related quantitative field (with a strong interest in biopharmaceutical applications).
Fundamental understanding of biological or bioprocess principles and/or data analysis methods.
Interest in applying AI/ML and digital tools to scientific and manufacturing challenges.

Placements are expected to begin on 7th September 2026.
