Drainage Engineer

Position: Drainage Engineer

Location: Beckton Sewage Treatment Works, Barking, Essex

Job Type: Permanent, full-time

Hours: 4 days on, 4 days off, 40.25 hours

Salary: OTE £34,000 per annum (basic pay, overtime, on call allowance and bonuses)

About the Role

Due to continued growth and development, we are looking for customer focused people to join our Utility Division, working on our Thames Water contract service to deliver real and effective solutions to wastewater network and drainage problems.

  • Travelling to residential sites via HGV in a two-person team, around the region powering a high-pressure water jet for restoration.
  • Cleaning and maintaining drainage systems.
  • Recording each job report correctly on the specialist equipment provided.
  • Running diagnostics and repairs on drains.
  • Delivering good customer service.
  • Maintaining good H&S practice while carrying out works.
  • Ensuring vehicle stock is full and replenished.
  • Complying with health and safety responsibilities (PPE, safe site set-ups protecting Lanes Group employees, the public, and other road users).
  • Utilising VISTEC and Salesforce platforms.
  • Liaising with the client regarding progress and any updates.
  • Working unsupervised in all weather conditions using correct PPE, lone worker system, etc.
  • Dynamically risk assessing site access and working conditions depending on specific circumstances on arrival.
  • Providing support to colleagues.
  • Conducting thorough inspections of tools, equipment and plant before and after use.
  • Reporting any defects or malfunctions in relation to training.
  • Carrying out risk assessments and having a mature approach to risk perception.
  • Being aware of all Lanes Group policies and responsibilities towards them.
  • Handling any other reasonable ad-hoc duties requested by management.

About You

The ideal candidate will be hard working, respectful, and comply with health and safety standards. Experience in the use of high‑pressure jetting equipment is useful but not essential. Other drainage qualifications (e.g., NRSWA and confined spaces) are an advantage.
