Description Job Purpose: To provide portfolio management services to the highest standards to investment managers (IMs) in line with client objectives, ensuring consistency in terms of achieving best outcomes. This role is not a certification function under SMCR and will not have discretion over portfolio construction or decision making with regards to investments. Key Areas of Responsibility: Assist IMs with portfolio management for a broad array of discretionary and advisory clients, individuals, families, trusts, corporate and charities - subject to the specific needs of each client. Be aware of the portfolio construction process within the team and assist with the implementation and maintenance of investment models, ensuring that client portfolios are aligned and managed against them. Conduct regular reviews of client portfolios to support with the IMs ongoing suitability of investments for clients Assist IMs in ensuring all client communications are actioned promptly and efficiently. Assist with the creation of schemes of investments for new clients and produce investment proposals. To provide cover for administrative functions on the desk and to carry our administration functions at the direction of line manager. Monitor outliers and ensure that each outlier is dealt with or marked with an explanation. Put together rationales for transactions / trades on client accounts. Keep abreast of market developments and act as a conduit to provide IMs with key information in order to enable investment portfolios to be managed in such a way as to ensure best client outcomes. Provide regular commentary on economic, market, company and fund updates to team members, both verbally and in writing. Assist IMs in maintaining due diligence documentation for investment solutions not on the central preferred list. Assist with quarterly reporting to clients. Ensure clients’ ISA and Capital Gains Tax allowances are utilised. Assist support staff with administration where necessary. Represent Charles Stanley at events, presentations, meetings etc. as required. Personal compliance with all regulatory issues and promotion of a compliance culture throughout the office. Process and report trades under instruction. Qualifications & Experience: Ideally holding, or working towards, CISI Level 4 or other benchmark qualification. Experience in portfolio management for private clients with awareness of and some exposure to investment research, balanced portfolio management, asset allocation and alternative investment strategies. Knowledge & Skills: Strong working knowledge of financial services organisations with a particular focus on relevant regulatory and compliance requirements. Knowledge of investment processes and techniques with the ability to quickly become conversant with the Company’s products and services. Independent, reliable, highly motivated candidate and with strong attention to numerical detail. Comply with Company Investment Management Practice Manual. High level and broad market awareness. Knowledge of the FCA Conduct of Business Rules and Money Laundering Regulations 1993. Full understanding of TCF. Operate a methodical and organised approach to work. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Articulate and diplomatic at all times. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Operate with a business-focussed approach. Strong attention to detail particularly when providing written information. Resilient and calm under pressure. Ability to juggle priorities, multi-task and execute work at speed. Dedicated to the “client first” principles of the firm, possessing uncompromising personal integrity. Ability to use appropriate IT including MS Office (especially MS Excel), as well as financial data and news systems.
