Omega is the leading manufacturer and supplier of high-quality kitchens to the new-build contract developer market across the UK.
Within our purpose-built state-of-the-art head office based in Thorne, Doncaster, we have a 400,000 sq ft plant comprising of our manufacturing, warehousing and office facilities. A recent investment of £20m set us up for continued growth into the future, introducing a new warehouse, re-mapping the assembly route and investing in our people.
We have 5 core brands which are Novus, Sheraton, Mackintosh, Chippendale and English Rose. We manufacture a made to order true rigid kitchen which is glue and dowel, along with a ready to assemble option for our customers.
We continually invest in NPD, the most recent new range introduction in 2023 saw the launch of Novus, representing Omega's commitment to innovative solutions with a focus on a handleless system and a sleek minimalist design for contemporary kitchens. We have invested in further NPD in 2024 to ensure we are offering the latest trends to our customers.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Leadership of Product and Process:
* Engages, motivates departmental Team Leaders and helps them to deliver robust paint products while supporting process controls ensuring consistency.
* Sets and demonstrates high personal standards of leadership behaviour and performance and sets clear expectations of a continuous improvement culture.
* Demonstrates and fosters proactive values of health and safety, customer service and team working.
* Builds good relationships with area owners and their direct reports and team(s).
* Provides direction, motivation, and development to support training needs for the production manager to deploy.
* Understands the paint materials and associated chemicals to drive quality performance and meet or exceed FIRE GOLD and BS6222-2 requirements.
* Manages colour by means of Delta E, and familiar with testing for certification in the kitchen and furniture industry.
Managing Operational Performance:
* Manages products and components (pigments, binders, solvents, thinners, acid catalyst, waterborne paints and associated materials). Developing new applications for existing products.
* Contributes to functional strategy and objectives in several key result areas, e.g. Quality, Product and Process.
* In conjunction with the production manager, assists with setting KPIs in relation to delivering results.
* Is responsible for delivering Departmental performance in relation to:
* Quality Right First Time.
* Remedial and Guarantee performance.
* Communicates continuous improvement plans with the production team through regular meetings to ensure effective dissemination and understanding by the teams.
Problem Solving and Creativity:
* Uses and understands quality and safety data to continuously improve the paint process.
* Works closely with other members of the Manufacturing Leadership Team and across the business to resolve issues relating to Quality and Service. Recommends improvements within the broader Manufacturing area in terms of Product, Process, and Systems.
* Is required to understand and implement the principles of Lean Manufacturing through process improvement projects and initiatives.
* Is required to scope and lead projects of varying magnitudes, formulate and drafts specifications and requirements for projects, can put in place project plans and lead teams through to successful implementation.
* Drives and develops a culture of Continuous Improvement across teams and develops others to do the same.
Other:
* Is responsible for promoting and leading a strong health and safety culture across the Manufacturing Teams and ensures that teams adhere to all health and safety systems, policies, procedures and improvement targets.
Key Relationships
* Within Manufacturing: Own Department and across other Departments: Works closely with Production and Maintenance Managers within Manufacturing. Providing support to line managers, also for maintaining consistency in relation to handling people, process, and systems.
* External Suppliers: Build relationships with external suppliers, including suppliers of technology, materials, and services.
* Internal Suppliers: QA, Technical, RM Warehouse, IT, Production Planning, Purchasing and Finance are the main internal suppliers.
* External Customers: Customer service is paramount. It is critical that all external customers are supplied right first time with a robust product to meet the Omega guarantee.
* Internal Customers: Manufacturing, safety, quality, purchasing and technical.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
* Proven relevant experience of successfully delivering paint specialist performance.
* Understands and is capable of laboratory and chemist technical detail.
* Performance driven through team engagement and empowerment.
* Experience of managing in a fast moving, complex multi-disciplined environment, working to short lead times, a high variety of products and output volumes.
* Excellent forward planner, able to organise, analyse and use data to manage and organise the product development, NPD and NPI processes.
* High ability to multi-task and work on projects simultaneously.
* A catalyst for change with the ability to make and drive change in challenging circumstances.
* Knowledge of finishing technologies and the application of these.
* Knowledge and application of Lean principles.
* Experience of driving and implementing Lean projects, and has sound knowledge and experience of the application of continuous improvement techniques.
* Applied health and safety knowledge and experience, e.g. Ability to complete risk assessments, conduct H&S inspections, is knowledgeable about relevant health and safety regulations etc.
* IT literate. Microsoft Excel and Word proficient.
* Able to manipulate and analyse data to organise and drive performance and write reports.
* Demonstrates good communication and presentation skills.
* Formal management training and/or qualification.
* Knowledge and understanding of hand spraying and operating finishing equipment.
* Knowledge of timber technology, wood machining, assembly & furniture construction.
* Relevant safety and management qualifications at NVQ level 3 or above (or equivalent).
