We are supporting leading specialist in nuclear services and engineering delivery, as they seek a Senior Safety Engineer to support projects within their nuclear safety team. This is a contract role for an initial 6–12-month term and they are ideally seeking individuals with experience contributing to nuclear safety case documentation within highly regulated environments. The role is supporting nuclear programmes associated with legacy fuel cycle and decommissioning work linked to the Sellafield site.
Rate: £63 – £76/hour (Umbrella – inside IR35)
Location: Warrington or Bristol- 3 days onsite / 2 days WFH
Duration: 6-12 months initially
Requirements: sole UK national living and working in the UK for the past 5 years
Key Responsibilities
As part of a team, providing the nuclear safety input to design projects, ensuring that nuclear safety requirements are considered
Managing delivery for the work allocated
Producing calculations, analyses, design basis documentation and technical reports
Ensuring adequate communication with the relevant Engineers
Participating in Hazard Identification studies
Support production of the safety submission
Identifying project risks by highlighting safety items to the Technical Lead
Producing technical Scopes of Work
Feeding back lessons learnt for use on future stages of the project
Providing the safety case support to bids
Building customer relationships
Representing the discipline to internal and external customers
Maintaining awareness of wider industry
Supervising the work of junior staff within the same discipline.
Ensuring that processes and procedures are correctly followed.
Qualifications and Experience

Entry Level Requirements:
Bachelor Honours Degree (minimum) in relevant Science or Engineering related discipline;
Minimum of 5 years demonstrable knowledge and industry experience of a range of nuclear facilities;
Demonstrable experience of contributing to Safety Case documentation, for example:
o Hazard Management Strategy
o Radiological Safety Assessments
o Attendance at, and production of HAZOP Reports
o Safety Reports (PSRs, PCSRs etc.)
Demonstrable understanding of the ALARP Principle
Demonstrable knowledge of ONR Safety Assessment Principles
Fully Competent Requirements:
Demonstrable performance at entry level with further evidence to substantiate the above experience
Demonstrable experience in supporting the development of junior staff
Demonstrable experience in verification of peers’ reports
Further participation in HAZOPs, for example as Secretary
Demonstrable awareness of other safety case related disciplines and associated legislation
Awareness of engineering disciplines and their importance to safety case production
