Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a substantive whole‑time appointment to a newly established post with Oldham Mental Health Services. This post covers the Central sector within the Oldham area and has been created following the transfer of a current consultant to a different role within the trust.
The Oldham general adult psychiatry service (typically for people aged 16 to 64) has run since 2008 under a model in which the team of consultants is deployed as follows: three consultants work exclusively in the community and outpatient areas, one with Early Intervention, two in inpatient areas (Home Treatment and the A&E Liaison Team) and one in Living Well. The appointed consultant will work with other sector consultants (East, West and South) and with the Care Management and Review Team.
Core Responsibilities
* Provide outpatient psychiatric care in the central sector, including clinics at Cherrywood Clinic, Royal Oldham Hospital, and Werneth Primary Care Centre.
* Conduct assessments and manage treatment plans for patients in hospital and community settings, including home visits and other clinical environments.
* Contribute to teaching of medical and nursing staff and support ongoing research projects (e.g., Bright Mind, FreshSTART, Gamechange).
* Participate in local service user and carer groups and collaborate with community mental health teams (CMHTs).
* Support the Care Management and Review Team in delivering care for stable yet long‑term mental illness.
* Engage in quality improvement, audits, and service evaluation activities.
* Maintain clinical documentation and comply with MHA and MCA duties.
Qualifications and Experience
* Medical degree (MBChB, MBBS or equivalent).
* Full registration with the GMC in good standing, with no warning or conditions on practice.
* Included on the GMC Specialist Register or achieving within six months.
* Approved Clinician status (or to be achieved within three months) and S12 approval (or to be achieved within three months).
* Excellent knowledge of adult psychiatry, including complex psychological problems, with specialist sub‑specialist experience relevant to the post.
* Clinical skills applying a bio‑psycho‑social perspective, strong medical knowledge, and excellent written and oral communication in English.
* Experience in teaching (undergraduate or postgraduate) and involvement in CPD, research, audits, or service evaluation.
* Discharge and Barring Service (DBS) check required under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.
