Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. Registered with the HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist
2. MSc or equivalent
3. Evidence of up to date CPD
Desirable criteria
4. Willing to pursue further qualifications
Experience
Essential criteria
5. post HCPC Registration experience of working in a Biochemistry laboratory
6. Good working knowledge of LIMS and computer systems
7. Demonstrable problem solving skills
8. Understanding of management skills to ensure day-to-day running of the department
Desirable criteria
9. Experience of analyser installation and validation process
Technical Skills Competencies
Essential criteria
10. Possess highly developed technical skills and adept at all laboratory procedures
11. Ability to interpret diagnostic results and take appropriate action
12. Proven training ability
13. Ability to organise own workload and the day to day organisation and staffing of work section
14. Evaluate and appraise new methods and technologies
Desirable criteria
15. HR & appraisal skills
16. Prepare presentations as part of laboratory training programme
Knowledge
Essential criteria
17. Thorough, specialist understanding of Clinical Biochemistry
18. Understands Biochemistry and its application in clinical practice and public health
19. Comprehensive understanding of quality control/quality assurance and laboratory safety procedures

20. Understanding of basic management practice
